Sassy in the South: DIY date night: Hocus Pocus themed

Sassy in the South: DIY date night: Hocus Pocus themed: The cutest married couple you will ever meet.

I might just have to steal this idea for when I have a special someone!

The Heavy Hearts - My Horizon (+playlist)

A few months ago I met a girl at the gym. She had on the cutest workout outfit on and her hair had an intricate braid.  Being new to the gym and completely out of place of course the first thing I did was talk to a stranger (if you don't know me I could talk to a wall).  I decided she was going to be the one I would bombard with questions and eventually (hopefully) befriend.

We ended up hitting it off and decided we would be accountabili-buddies.  Holding each other accountable to go to the gym.

Over the next few months I found out she was in a band.  She ended up playing at Cahaba Brewery which is where I work part time doing social media.

A new guy joined my full time job and we became friends as well!  After a few weeks he told me he was in a band and had a show coming up.  That night my Accountabili-buddy told me she was in a band and had a show coming up too. Of course I wanted to go to both but they were on the same day.

Come to find out they were in the same band.  A great band.  The Heavy Hearts.  They are Birmingham based and I can see them going far.  They have a unique sound with soulful lyrics.

So this post is to my friends in The Heavy Hearts and to always reaching out and getting to know someone.  You never know what connections you may have to people.

24 and knowing way to many people in the city

Birmingham, although wonderful, is probably the last place I should be during this time in my life.  This weekend on the rare occasion that I went out, I found myself surrounded by people I knew but had no desire to see.  That sounds harsh, I know.I have been here for too long and feel like I need to get out of the city and venture to a brand new town.  But how could I pick up my life and start somewhere new? I have an apartment here and a good job, would it actually be worth it?

I take these thoughts with a grain of salt.  I shouldn't let one night of an unwanted reunion deter me from living in a city that I truly love.

"If it ain't fried, it ain't food"

"In the South if it ain't fried, it ain't food" said my Grandmother this past weekend at our family fish fry.  Lately I have really learned the meaning of family and how important they are to me.  Since we all live in different places these reunions, which usually are surrounded some type of cooking (this one being a fish fry), are very important.

My dad's side of the family came up from Mobile with freshly caught fish that morning.  We then proceeded to catch Catfish with my niece and nephew that day. For the record, I am not good at fishing, the mundane task of casting and reeling in without a fish on the line is not appealing to my ADD personality.  But I cannot complain, watching my niece catch her first fish wearing a seersucker two piece monogrammed swimsuit holding her very own Barbie fishing pole made it worth it.

While the fish were being battered the family got competitive with a pool version of Volleyball.  Sadly, my team lost.

It was nice to take the time to disconnect from all things electronic and focus on the important things.  Silly stories with my family, tall tales about the giant Catfish in my grandfather's pond, and my nephew showing me his newest Karate moves.

All in all there is nothing like a day at the Lake.

Cause I was walkin in Memphis

Sami's Shenanigans
http://www.samisshenanigans.com/

My weekend Shenanigans were spent in the one and only Memphis, Tennessee.  Although this past week has been filled with travels for me (Thank God, I was about ready to jump off the building of my job), Memphis was by far my favorite.

We ate at the famous Rendezvous where I encountered what I believed to be a hired date.  A young girl, no older than 22, was at a table filled will old nasty men.  Considering I have amazing eves dropping skills I listened to their conversation to ensure one of them was not her father.  Due to the nature of the conversation, I can promise you he was definitely NOT her father.  IF so, he should be put in jail but I digress.  The food at Rendezvous was phenomenal   The most southern of foods, RIBS.  and delicious they were.

We left and walked over to the Peabody hotel for the march of the ducks.  Strange to think a 5 star hotel would let ducks walk into their lobby and splash around in their fountain, but they did and it has been a tourist hit for over 50 years.  The cute little ducks waddle in at 11am and waddle out at 5pm every day.  Like clockwork.
We then headed to Beale Street with which i have no better words to describe it besides FUN.
All in all my weekend was a success...
